How It All Began…….ROTA: Reaching Out 2 Africa had its humble beginnings in 1995 in the spontaneous outreach ministry of Fr. Ron Sajdak and his involvement with African Refugees seeking shelter and safety in USA, moving into Buffalo, New York. “I didn’t even know where Sudan was on the African Continent,” Fr. Ron said. “The meeting of Owar Gally Ojwok, a young Sudanese gentleman waiting for his first job interview and later meeting his wife and his daughter changed my life forever.” ROTA GOALSGoal: Third World ConnectionsFinally, ROTA has reached out into Africa itself in order to assist with particular needs. Building a supportive relationship with the St. Charles Lwanga/Butende Technical Institute (BTI) – a vocational training school for young adult students often times orphaned by the tragedy of AIDS in their families. Through this relationship we were able to accomplish the “Share The Well” and “Evarist House” projects. Currently we are engaged in the Koiyom Clinic Building project. May God continue to give success to the work of our hands. Learn more... Goal: Assisting African ClergyAs this ministry continued, ROTA was in the position to welcome, sustain, and assist a number of African priests coming to USA for some much needed rest, continuing education and rejuvenation. As a way of supporting, affirming and celebrating our new African friends, it was ROTA’s pleasure to assist the Diocese of Buffalo in planning community wide celebrations in honor of St. Josephine Bakhita, new patron Saint of Sudan. Three African Bishops were welcomed into Buffalo by ROTA and addressed their community in exile. Learn more... Goal: Humanitarian AssistanceThe need for additional humanitarian assistance, American companionship, friendship, and advocacy for refugees, were the main focus points of our, Reaching Out To Africa. This took place through a series of direct service opportunities for people of different cultures. Learn more...
